THE DONATION OF SECURITIES The Archdiocese of Hartford gratefully accepts gifts of appreciated securities as payment of any form of charitable gift including the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, gifts to a local parish or school, or any other gift to a ministry of the Archdiocese. These gifts allow the donor to save on income tax and avoid the capital gains tax that would be due if you sold the securities on their own. For most donors, the fair market value of stocks and bonds may be deducted for income tax purposes up to 30 percent of adjusted gross income with a five-year carryover. Please review the actual tax impact of such a gift, as well as the rules regarding this form of charitable giving, with your tax advisor.
